Building Typology



1.       Which building typology you are researching?
a.        urban eatery
2.       Why are you researching this building typology?
a.        An enclosed urban eatery is something new to New York. I find the idea of number of restaurants becoming an attraction for the community and tourists very appealing. It hasn’t yet come to Brooklyn and will be a great addition to the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
3.       What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research i.e. museum for dance, school for digital media…
a.        Urban eatery, culinary school, rooftop restaurant
4.       What are the examples that you will be researching… list the examples, location and architect  (10 examples)
a.        Chelsea Market

6.       What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building? (may evolve once more research is done)

  3. Look at 999 Bergen - that just opened by the creators of Brownstoner.com and Smorgesbord. There is a huge "food Court" with incubator work spaces above.
    Your building will be multi-floors and most people will only stay on the first floor for eating - unless there is something extreme on the roof or upper floors.....

  4. Your program is very exciting. It is a wonderful hybrid of a series of public uses: educational, service and entertainment.

    In regards to your precedents analysis make sure that your graphics are consistent: Labels' sizes, styles, position should be the same for every board. For example the arrows These are details that you should start addressing already in order to achieve a compelling visual presentation.

  5. Your site location is a great one indeed and the building type that you have chosen is very appropriate for it. Regarding your stated goals I think that 5b ("Add character and design a great addition to Brooklyn Heights and the Brooklyn Bridge Park) will be a great challenge.
